Day 2

Today was our first day of the internship. Because of our long journey, we had to be at the office of the Boys and Girls Club at 10 o'clock am instead of an hour earlier. So after we woke up this morning, we had breakfast with our host family and after that we left to the office. The Boys and Girls Club is an organisation in Cedar Rapids, which takes care for children in the city. After school, children from 6-18 can go there and do all kind of things, like sports, arts and craft or being tutored. In a couple of weeks, they are having the 'Fish-O-Rama' event organised by the Boys and Girls Club. With this event, children can go fishing with their parents. In the lake where everyone is fishing, one labelled fish is present. The fish is labelled by the organisation and the one who catches the fish wins a big price. Today, Iris and I could help organising this event. It was not a difficult job, as we had to fold letters, put them into envelopes and putting adresses and stamps on it. Tomorrow, we continue with some tasks that still have to be done for the event. During lunch time, we were going to have lunch with 2 women who work at the Boys and Girls Club, which was fun! We figured out there were more differences between America and the Netherlands than we expected, but there were also many things that are the same in both countries. After lunch, we returned to the office where we had to do another thing for the event. When we had finished doing this, Dennis picked us up from the office and we went to a supermarket. They really have everything over there, and it is so big! After being at the supermarket, Dennis showed us some placed in Cedar Rapids and after that we went back to their house to have diner. It was a good day!
