Last Saturday we went home again. But before we went to the airport, we went to an art festival, which was really nice! After the festival, we went to have breakfast/lunch at a restaurant Dennis used to own. Iris and I had pancakes with apple and caramel syrup, and it tasted very good! Then, we drove to the airport. When we tried to check in at the self check-in desk, it said 'no reservations for I. Manders'. Then I tried to check in, and it said 'No reservations for M. Manders'. We thought this was really strange, but the man who tried to check in at this desk before we tried, had the same problem, so we thought the machine just did not work properly. This was not the case. We found out that all our tickets were cancelled. On our way to the United States, we landed in Moline in stead of Cedar Rapids during our last flight, because of the really bad weather. For the next day, United Airlines had planned a flight from Moline to Cedar Rapids. However, we missed that flight because we went by car from Moline to Cedar Rapids. And because we missed that flight, United Airlines cancelled all our other flights... Eventually, we could get tickets for our flights that got cancelled, and we went home!
We had a great time in Cedar Rapids, thanks to the people from the Boys and Girls Club, Gems of Hope and Catholic Workers House. But in particular: thank you Becky and Dennis, you made sure we had a wonderful time in Iowa!
